Cone Magazine review Young Fathers Shame single

The three are, so far, probably most recognisable by their track ‘I Heard, which hit underground club playlists in 2014, but this latest effort has signs of stripping ‘I Heard’ of its crown. It’s pretty evident why the guys managed to beat the likes of ‘FKA Twigs‘ to bag Best Album at last years Mercury Prize; the atmospheric, energy filled, ‘Shame’ takes a handful of popular genres and blends them, resulting in an Outkast-esque sound that feels familiar, yet edgy and different.

Released on Big Dada, project of cult music favourite Ninja Tunes, the label that also boasts acts like Roots Manuva, Diplo and Kate Tempest, the track reflects the group from Edinburgh’s surroundings, featuring vocals from the Scottish Leith Choir. This is real feel good music, it encourages you to sing along, evoking feelings of reckless abandon; it could be played in a car on the way back from a road trip, bringing back memories of the countless times you’ve done something you should perhaps regret but have resigned as a casualty of life.

A promising feat by Young Fathers, we’re looking forward to the album.
