Review: C.Diab – Memory Into Mist

Canadian sonic shifter, C. Diab, releases his first single from the forthcoming LP, No Perfect Wave.

Sculpting an atmospheric soundscape with lingering cello-bowed guitar, ‘Memory Into Mist’ is a track that gracefully floats somewhere between the ethereality of Sigur Rós and the cavernous compositions of Godspeed You! Black Emperor. Describing himself as a “solo bowed guitar player/ trumpet player/ tape manipulator” Caton Diab crafts layer upon layer of pensive instrumentals to form an entirely immersive and affecting sound.

Created amidst the landscape of Canadian town Port Hardy, where C.Diab resides, the remote beauty of the natural environment is without doubt echoed and reconstructed in his music. ‘Memory Into Mist’ evokes the sensation of gazing across a vast expanse of water, on the brink of a storm, whilst contemplating the complexities and beauties of life, and it leaves a haunting impression long after the last notes have played out. Taken from forthcoming LP No Perfect Wave (due out October 7th on Injazero Records) this single sets expectations for a full length release of staggering and fragile splendour.
