Longstanding Music Journalist And Author, Marc Spitz, Dies Age 47

Mister Saturday Night on Cone Magazine

A staple rock n’ roll journalist for Spin Magazine, as well as an honorary author and playwright, Marc Spitz battled both drug addiction and depression for the better part of his life.

He was a true believer in every aspect of rock n’ roll culture, from its grandeur, to the adolescent romanticism and the changing identity and sexuality linked to its form. Whilst also being a senior writer at Spin, (first sworn in by his ability to capture the unexposed areas of stardom through his own recreations), Spitz also wrote several biographies on notable musicians like David Bowie and Mick Jagger.

Whilst also embodying his own classification of the rock n’ roll archetype, those at Spin commended Spitz on his relentless work ethic and faithfulness to the criticism of both the music and its culture. His oral history of the L.A. punk scene in ‘We Got The Neutron Bomb’ was highly commendable, just as much as the semi-biographical ‘Up For Anything’ which is loosely based on his authoritative and at times abusive father.
