Whilst the globes tidal interest in vinyl fetishism reaches an all time high, HMV has now released reports of selling one vinyl turntable every minute over the christmas period.
It’s no new news that interest in vinyl has been on the surge for some time now. The headlines seem to be continually painting a picture of fetishism around the nostalgic music format that adds tactility to a music collection and of course supports the artist.
Whilst supermarket chains like Tesco and Lidl join high-street giants like Urban Outfitters on the band-wagon of vinyl, times couldn’t be better for the music industry.
The Scotsman has predicted 2016 to see in excess of two million vinyl sales (compared to 2007’s mere 205,000).
Chief executive of HMV Ian Topping remarked: “Entertainment products form a major part of the Christmas shopping list. The gift of the year in 2015, though, has to be a turntable as we have seen a huge resurgence in the sales of vinyl.”
This surge of interest in vinyl players has been enjoyed across the board from John Lewis seeing a 240% increase in sales and Amazon’s highest selling electronic product being a turntable.
