We can’t stop listening to Like A Drum, the B Side to Roots Manuva‘s new release Facety 2:11, produced by musical maverick, Four Tet.
The double boast is the first we’ve heard from London’s finest Alternative Hip Hop / Electronica artist since 2013’s Stolen Youth EP. Like A Drum is more of the Roots style we know and love, taking us back to the good ole’ days when he sung about being beaten with a wooden spoon in Dreamy Days or of strength in the face of diversity with Witness the Fitness.
Roots Manuva himself cites this track, for which he teamed up with one of NYC’s most exciting voices, Machine Drum, as “a wee spring warmer in voodoo coptic dialect shape shifting: the remit the same as ever in awakening one’s inner, modern day Sun Ra, ODB and Kate Bush on an overdrive of, doing because we can’t help ourselves”…’.
The cream of britsh rap, also known as Rodney Smith, shows that he is fresher than ever with this drop; It’s jazzy and intricate, evolved and inspiring. Revolution is a theme of the track, and that’s what we’re saying: Viva revolution and Viva Roots Manuva!
