For its 12th release, Skream’s house/techno imprint, Of Unsound Mind, departs from the banal impersonations of Innervisions that previously characterised its sound and takes a confident stride into new, darker territory.
And how does it sound? The clue is in the name – with a lead track called Microdot from a newcomer producer named Disintegrate, and on a label called Of Unsound Mind, there are no surprises here that both tunes are in your face, peak-time dancefloor bangers.
Both side A and B tip their hats to the classic sounds of acid, with the lead track’s opening dreamy pads soon giving way to a vicious 303 bass shakedown that barely relents for the track’s duration. Side B, Party People, is a slightly more introspective affair that’s still very much dancefloor-orientated.
Disintegrate may be leaving little to the imagination, but you can bet your last bean that at the right time and place this could go down a treat.
