We take a look into the work of Italian film maker Yuri Ancarani and his 3 minute short ‘ll Capo‘
Set in the Carrara’s marble quarries in the Apuan Alps, Northwest Italy, film maker Yuri Ancarani subtly captures the Captain (ll Capo) manoeuvring his men and their heavy machinery mining the site. The 3 minute short features a range of perfectly placed shots displaying the day to day routine of how the marble is cut and moved around. Although first released around 7 months ago the film still makes for a great watch with its extremely pleasing aesthetics, both from the beauty of the large marble slabs and the cinematic photography used. Yuri uses up close shots of the captains hand signals to reveal the obvious dangers of the job but contrast these well with the long panoramic views of the marble.
