Massive Attack To Hold Homecoming Gig On Bristol’s Clifton Downs

Massive Attack Bristol Cone Magazine

The Downs will be the last stop on the duo’s European tour this summer.

Massive Attack have a huge string of shows planned, which will commence on 29th June at the Pavilions in Plymouth. After this, the duo will hit the British capital to headline one of the British Summer Time Hyde Park gigs, before jetting over to the continent to give a series of performances in Europe’s largest cities and fill slots at some of the biggest European festivals the summer.

Bristol was the birthplace of Massive Attack (Robert Del Naja, otherwise known as “3D”, and Grant “Daddy G” Marshall), and so it is no surprise to see them ending their huge tour with a special party in the city, which is also one of the UK’s largest creative musical hubs. The Downs, which overlook the River Avon and Clifton Suspension Bridge, are perhaps Bristol’s most beautiful and iconic landmark, and seem like the perfect place for an open-air shindig to celebrate the end of Massive Attack’s tour. It will be the first time in 15 years that the Downs have been used to hold a music event of this scale, and 3D has said that he hopes the concert will become an ‘annual event’.

This event is also being supported by Team Love (the people behind Love International in Croatia) and we spoke with Tom Paine from the company, who gave us this statement:

“We are incredibly excited to announce the first Bristol concert for the band in over 12 years.  Ourselves and the band have been making plans for a show in their hometown for many years now – and we can’t wait to deliver a spectacular event for the people of Bristol.” – Tom Paine

The gig will take place on 3rd September. Tickets will go on sale Friday (20th May) at 9am. Supporting names so far include Skepta and Primal Scream, with a promise of many more acts to be announced.
