Dimensions Festival announce final lineup

Dimensions Entrance on Cone Magazine

The iconic underground dance festival Dimensions has just announced its final lineup, with Juan Atkins, Underground Resistence, Âme, Boddika, Loefah and oh so many more…

Set amidst a titanic 2000-year old Roman Amphitheatre and the 19th century abandoned Fort Punta Christo in Pula, Croatia, Dimensions now returns for its fourth year with an incredible lineup that reflects its motif of avoiding passing fads, transient styles and flash-in-the-pans. Their one true manifesto is to unite only true legends and the next wave of talent rising through the ranks in a celebration of house, techno, disco, jazz, funk, soul, drum and bass and much more.

This year (26th – 30th August) Juan Atkins will perform on the main stage, bringing with him an indefatigable 35 year career in innovative Techno productions. Having recently released Digital Solutions, the first release in 16 years from collective Model 500, Juan is certainly one to watch at the moment.

After Juan’s set was abruptly cut short by last year’s destructive storm which hit the festival, equipment behind the stage was covered in inch thick water, whilst artists had to be rushed off. As such, it is great to see the festival organisers presenting the Underground Resistence presents Timeline live. The Detroit heavyweight collective was founded in the late 1980s by Jeff Mills and Mike Banks amidst a city dominated by the automotive industry. Expect a fuse of social, political, and economically framed live performances of seductive hi-tech soul, cosmic jazz-funk, riot disco, timeless electro, and of course techno.

Âme’s Kristian Beyer will deliver a Detroit influenced selection of deep house cuts and soulful records. Whilst London’s Boddika will display his talent for pioneering varied genres through his catalogue of contemporary garage, house and bass sounds, electro, D’n’B and breakbeat.

Swamp 81’s Loefah (the once member of Digital Mystikz) has been revered as a genre defying DJ, placing an emphasis on representing vinyl whilst co-managing his label School. We can expect the Rinse FM stalwart to deliver his iconic range of bass heavy house and industrial timbre. Check out his set with Dimensions on Boiler Room back in 2013 (consistent class).

But this is only just the tip of the iceberg, for Dimensions exhaustive lineup seems to just reel off more and more sensational artists. Lord of the dance, Floating Points will perform a DJ set alongside his live performance at the opening concert, whilst Space Dimension Controller will take the crowd on a cosmic journey through textures and symphony, with their style of dreamy house sure to create a soundtrack for the sun kissed festivities.

Canadian music trio BADBADNOTGOOD will also be on call to deliver their retro fusion of jazz and hip-hop, following the release of their hugely successful collaborative project ‘Sour Soul‘. Slum Village collaborator and The Bling 47 Group label founder Waajeed is one of Detroit’s finest producers, and is joined on the lineup by drum & bass icon Randall, whilst Eliphino will be joining the dots between hip-hop, house, jungle, techno and beyond.

Our friends over at NTS will also be hosting their own stage this year with The Do!! You!!! breakfast show host Charlie Bones performing alongside residents Jon K and Jon Rust.

If that was all a bit too much to process, grab yourself a coffee and a comfy chair, and watch their official video which was released today.
