18th Dec | Cone Magazine 1st Birthday @ The Island

Next Month Cone Magazine will be celebrating its 1st birthday with an evening of carefully curated events that commemorate the very ethos of the magazine – to inform, educate and entertain.

Cone Magazine 1st Birthday

December 2014, and sat in a cafe located in Bristols underbelly Stokes Croft an idea was born. Having just left an office job, the founder of Cone magazine sat in the cafe staring at an image painted on a building of a chimpanzee in deep thought. It couldn’t have been more representative. The idea was born in that instance to create a magazine and media platform, and what followed was a name.

Cone (like the shape) focuses on getting ‘straight to the point’ – concisely disseminating original and thought provoking content from the left-field domain of music, art and culture. With the idea in place, followed the hard work. The bedroom project became a full time odyssey, supported by bar jobs and a passion. It wasn’t long before the team began to grow with some fantastically talented and dedicated contributors coming on board to share in the ethos of Cone.

By the time festival season hit, we had a team of 8 contributors and photographers travelling around the festival circuit and basement raves. Last month we took a big step (that was a long time in the making) – to launch our own Cafe. What started as a bedroom project now found it’s feet in a new home called The Grind Café. Whilst serving fresh food and speciality coffee, it was also a place for the Cone family to meet and work in a creative environment. In the same month we also launched Cone TV for the distribution of journalistic style documentaries.

This brings us up to December 2015, and to celebrate a rollercoaster year we are hosting an evening of events that celebrate our core values | To inform, educate and entertain.
