Recording of Floating Points & Four Tet at the Plastic People closing party

Floating Points & Four Tet live at Weather festival 2015 on Cone Magazine

2015 started on an emotional low for the electronic dance scene. Plastic People closed its doors for good, but not without one last blowout. Based in Shoreditch, London, this intimate club has been one of the key centres in the electronic dance culture of the UK, with monthly residencies from Theo Parrish, Floating Points and Four Tet for over 8 years.

The club faced closure back in 2010 due to noise complaints, but managed to veer this shortcoming with compliance.

This news comes amidst controversies of Fabriclive near missing closure due to multiple drug related deaths. Other notable closures include George Tavern, Hackneys Joiners Arms, and Soho’s much loved Madame Jojo’s. For many promoters this is becoming a big problem with the cost of licenses and restrictions on noise giving London’s clubbers all the more reason to feel pessimistic. Cause for confusion considering London’s cultural heritage.

For it’s closing party, long time residents Four Tet & Floating Points did a 6 hour set of jazz, funk, disco, and house, for one emotional big blowout. Click above to hear the full 6 hour set, posted from Floating Points Soundcloud Page.
