Oneohtrix Point Never Wins Cannes’ Soundtrack Award

Oneohtrix Point Never - Cone Magazine

Brooklyn-based electronic musician and composer, Oneohtrix Point Never, wins Cannes’ Soundtrack Award this year, joining Cliff Martinez (The Neon Demon), Lim Giong (The Assassin) and Howard Shore (Map to the Stars) as receivers of the award.

Good Time, directed by Josh and Benny Safdie and starring Robert Pattinson and Jennifer Jason Leigh, is the hypnotic crime thriller following Pattinson’s Connie in a twisted odyssey through the New York underworld in a desperate attempt to get his brother out of jail.

Daniel Lopatin (Oneohtrix Point Never) and the Safdie brothers became close collaborators through a shared love of cult genre movies and music, and their level of collaboration here has a rare depth of symbiosis of picture and score.  Mundane events become dramatic, montages become mini operas and Iggy Pop features on the poignant closer “The Pure And The Damned”.
