CONE Recap: The Lagoons at Elsewhere in Brooklyn

LA Brothers, “The Lagoons”, Blessed Brooklyn with a Typically Energetic Display Earlier this Month

Date: 2.9.24
Location: Elsewhere – Brooklyn, NY

Despite being known for their chill vibes and laid-back melodies, The Lagoons had the crowd at Elsewhere jumping

The Lagoons have cemented their place in the live entertainment ecosystem as both musicians and entertainers. It’s the reason they’re selling out venues, big and small, across the country. Ryan and Joey Selan, the two brothers who together make up The Lagoons, have been making waves since their first single “California” released in 2016. Not 60 seconds into “California”, you’ll hear Ryan on the base, guitar and drums and Joey on the keys and the saxophone, while also providing vocals. This multi-instrumental approach has remained a consistent theme across the band’s 2 subsequent albums and 3 EPs

The Lagoons were at Elsewhere in Brooklyn in February 2024 for the middle leg of their 6-stop “Island Hopping Tour”. There was no shortage of new music to share with fans as singles “Wandering” and “Who We Really Are” had both dropped earlier in the year. Both songs feature an addictive mix of base, keys, sax and soft vocals. And yet somehow, Ryan and Joey had fans jumping and moving – creating an infectious energy throughout the venue. As mentioned before, The Lagoons do not just play music, they perform. The shows was as much an engaging, interactive basement party with friends as it was a stop on a cross country music tour. The audience seemed to love the multi-instrumental nature of the performance, with a noticeable twinge of added excitement when Joey broke out the saxophone. There was a point in the night where both brothers raised a glass solo cup with the crowd and drank to the collective success of the evening.
